    Civil War Ames U.S. Model 1840 Artillery Saber Dated 1864.
    32 1/2-inch curved blade with the width of the blade being around 1 1/4-inches. Sturdy brass hilt with wire-wrapped leather handle. Marked AMES MFG CO / CHICOPEE / MASS. on the obverse ricasso and U.S. / C.E.W. / 1864 on the reverse ricasso. Iron scabbard with inspector marks H. Note: According to Civil War Cavalry & Artillery Sabers by Thillmann, page 513, Charles E. Wilson, ASI, inspected during the period of 1846-65. Overall length approximately 39 1/2-inches in scabbard.

    Condition: Very good to fine. Cutting edge with faint nicks with the remainder of the blade in fine condition. Scabbard with minor handling wear. Some scattered surface spotting. Grip complete with leather and wire wrapping. Brass with scattered fine scratches and minimal spotting. No visible dents to scabbard. Complete with both mounting rings.
