Circa 1800 American Silver Mounted Infantry Officer's Saber Identical to #24 in the Silver Mounted Sword Section of Peterson's Book. 37" overall with 32" unmarked blade exhibiting a single narrow fuller along the back edge. Blade overall excellent with just a couple of areas of dark patina with some very light and very old surface rust on those areas. The sword overall untouched/uncleaned. Blade with absolutely no nicks and very nice. The sword retains the original 4 1/4" long silver top scabbard mount/throat with the original leather. The mount is scalloped diagonally along the bottom edge and boldly inscribed with the intertwined initials "JMK", obviously the original owner. Also retains the original 1 1/4" diameter silver suspension ring. The hilt itself is virtually identical the the specimen in Peterson, with the only difference being that the capstan is single rather than double stepped, and the quillon is turned down at a sharper angle. Although the Peterson sword uses a Philadelphia Rose blade, the sword is identified to a Baltimore owner, and the fact that the scabbard on the Peterson example, which is intact, utilizes the small wheel on the drag, a characteristic generally considered unique to Baltimore silver mounted swords, there is little question these swords are the work of a Baltimore maker. A beautiful American sword of great rarity and importance and with the potential to identify the original owner.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
