    Description

    C. 1890 US M1860 Staff & Field Officer's Sword - Minder, Baltimore. Blade is excellent with smooth gray patina and etched for half its length. Diamond shaped in cross section with 1" ricasso. Obverse with scrollwork, arms trophies, American flag and large US with knight's head stamped on the ricasso. Reverse with similar motifs with American shield, spread wing eagle and maker's logo "J. G. MINDER / BALTIMORE / MD". etched on ricasso. Hilt about perfect, the guard displaying tucked wing eagle on a panoply of six flags. Made with just a small upturned counterguard on the back. Black leather grip with single strand of rather heavy gauge brass wire appears to be original and perfect. Steel scabbard with brass mounts, having cast decoration, with nice patina and near perfect with just one tiny dent and some very light scattered surface rust, easily cleaned. Very nice example by scarce maker.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
