    Description

    C. 1850 American Militia Staff Officer's Sword. 25" straight, 1" wide blade, decorated with etching for half its length. Obverse with extensive floral/scrollwork with arms panoply with crossed flags. Reverse with similar motifs but with crossed cannons and flag. All etching highlighted with hand engraving. Blade excellent with absolutely no rust, or nicks and just one small area of very light pitting near the tip. Classic hilt for this form with cruciform guard with American shield langets. Fluted ivory grip perfect with nice patina, with plumed helmet pommel and 1/2" decorative ferrule at base. Hilt retains 90% of the original gilt. Black leather scabbard excellent with just some minor finish crackling with no flaking and a couple of minor 'wrinkles'. Plain brass mounts near perfect, just a couple of minor dings on the lower mount with oval shaped frog stud. Choice example of this very popular form of American sword.
