    Description

Bird Head Pommel American Militia Officer's Saber C. 1830. 30" curved blade retaining 20% of the original fire blue, and most of the original gilt on the engraved blade decoration including American shield. Blade otherwise generally smooth and gray with just some scattered dark areas of very old surface rust, minor. Blade retains the original leather washer. Brass hilt with reverse P guard which is slightly bent, easily straightened, with disc quillon. Bird head pommel with full backstrap. Carved ivory grip with just one tiny very old chip at the top, really negligible, the grip with nice mellow age patina. All brass scabbard with two carrying rings and mounts. Scabbard with overall dark patina with some scattered dents on the lower portion but no breaks, cracks or bends. Scabbard retains the original brass throat. Actually a nice sword just requiring some minor restoration.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
