    Description

American Eaglehead Officer's Saber C. 1830. 29 1/2' curved blade decorated for one third its length with a unique combination. Engraved floral and military motifs, highlighted by gilt on a fire blue background, however on each side of the blade just below the scroll work termination of the fire blue is a white etched panel, with a spread wing eagle on the obverse and scroll work on the reverse. Blade retains 60% of the original fire blue and 80% of the original gilt. The balance generally bright and smooth with no pitting or nicks and just some minor scattered old surface rust, easily cleaned. Reverse P guard is slightly bent as is the backstrap extending from the eaglehead. Quillon also bent down. No cracks or breaks and easily repaired The sword utilizes langets with a deep relief tucked wing eagle on the obverse and plain on the reverse. Nicely carved bone grip with a few chips at the pommel and nice mellow patina. 1/2" decorative scroll embossed brass ferrule at the base of the grip. Hilt retains 50% of the original gilt. The brass scabbard with just some scattered minor dents and no throat. Ring mounts decorated with leaves and retaining traces of the original gilt. A nice sword and easily restorable.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
