American Eaglehead Officer's Saber and Scabbard C. 1825 28" curved blade with gilt highlighted engraved decoration including floral/scrollwork and arms panoplies including liberty cap on both sides. Retains traces of the fire blue background and much of the original gilt highlighting. Blade generally smooth and dark with some areas of light pitting/surface rust toward the tip. Brass hilt with disc quillon and five balls on the knucklebow. Crested eaglehead with nice definition. One piece bone grip with incised line decoration and nice patina perfect. 3/8" brass ferrule at the base. Hilt overall about perfect with dark untouched patina. Scabbard retains the upper two mounts with incised line decoration and carrying rings. Both about perfect with deep dark patina. The scabbard is excellent and very sound with minimal finish crackling and no flaking, but missing the lower 2" and lower mount. Good representative example and readily restorable with the addition of a lower mount.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
