Description

17th Century Swept Hilt Pierced Rapier.

Sword measures approximately 48-inches overall, featuring a 39 1/2-inch double-edged blade with a single fuller on each side, its markings now worn and indistinct. The blade is one inch at its widest point, finely balanced though the maker remains unknown. The workmanship, however, reflects an exceptional level of artistry. The grip, about 3-inches in length; square section and bound with wire, complemented by a sturdy knuckle bow. The pierced iron hilt, fashioned with a pattern reminiscent of interlinked medieval chainwork enhanced by a gracefully curved quillon and branch, with an elegantly adorned quillon block. Completing the ensemble is an ovoid pommel, decorated with intricate fluting and stippled punchwork, lending both distinction and refinement to the piece. Weight is approximately 2 1/2 lbs.

Condition: Good to very good with age wear. Showing an overall mottled gray patina on blade and hilt. Fine scratches present to metal. Crude metal and some pitting inside hilt.
