    Superb Quality, High Grade, Tiffany & Co. Straight Sword.
    31 1/2-inch straight double edge blade. Ricasso marked TIFFANY / & CO. / NEW YORK. The blade exhibits an elegant deep and finely detailed Tiffany etch for 3/4 its length which includes detailed scroll and leaf panels within a Panoply of Arms, Officer and spread wing eagle perched on a shield. The obverse displays numerous finely detailed scroll and leaf panels with an American soldier, Roman soldier holding a polearm and large block US in center. The Gilded hilt form is uniquely Tiffany and has been noted on several other custom presentation swords of the period. Gilded double chain that is attached at the helmet [pommel] and terminates at the eagle's wing tip below. Highly decorated Knight's helmet pommel cap with twisted wire wrapped handle. The cross guard is formed on both sides by a large American eagle with outstretched wings and perched on an American shield. The scabbard, with a brown finish features massive gilded relief designs with fine detail. Similar examples can be views on Civil War Cavalry and Artillery Sabers by John H. Thillmann, pages 421, 446 and 447.

    Condition: Blade excellent with some touches of luster and some minor salt and peppering at the extreme tip, else about perfect. Fine scratches from storage. Gold wash and gilded areas with very little handling wear. Scabbard is fine to excellent with minor handling and only a few minor imperfections. Handle with age wear and minor use. Drag with a few nicks and mars.
