Scabbard Marked CSA & Five Forks.

Schuyler, Hartley & Graham Foot Officer's Sword.
31 1/2-inch slightly curved single-edge blade etched with a spread-wing eagle surrounded by floral scroll on the obverse and US surrounded by floral scroll on the reverse side of the blade. Ricasso marked SCHUYLER, / HARTLEY & / GRAHAM. / NEW YORK. Brass, half-basket guard with pierced floral design. Leather covered grip with brass wire wrap. Metal scabbard with brass throat, mounts and drag with patriotic design [later added]. Scabbard has crudely scratched CSA and FIVE FORKS along with other unidentifiable markings. One can only assume, this added writing on the scabbard refers to The Battle of Five Forks or "The Siege of Petersburg", An important battle towards the end of the American Civil War. One that has Major General Phillip Sheridan defeating the CSA and Major General George E. Pickett. If this sword could talk!

Condition: Very good. Blade is generally bright with some spotting and light surface rust mostly towards the tip. Some bents near tip are examined by holding straight. Areas of leather grip covering with losses and cracks. Wire a bit loose. Tarnishing, fine scratches and wear to brass hilt. Scabbard with no visible dents, but with scattered pitting and discoloration. Dents, bruising and age patina to brass throat, mounts and drag.
