    Description

Relic Condition Thomas Griswold New Orleans Foot Officer's Sword With Readily Discernible Maker's Mark. Virtually identical to FIG 28-D in Albaugh's Photo Supplement. 29 1/4" blade with unstopped fuller and heavily pitted overall. remarkably, however, the maker's mark "Thomas Griswold (In an arc) / New Orleans" readily discernible and completely legible on the reverse ricasso. Hilt overall with deep dark patina but actually exhibits numerous traces of the original gilt. There is a small casting flaw on the guard just behind the quillon. The original wood grip is 90% intact with a couple of age cracks and a few small chips, but still retains all of the original twisted brass wire wrap. A remarkable Confederate relic.
