Pristine British 1821 Officer's Sword With Blade Etched for American Civil War Use. 35 1/2 slightly curved quill back blade with 120 1/4" false edge overall about mint, retaining 95% of the original brilliant luster. Etched for one half its length with Intricate scroll work and arms panoplies on the obverse and similar beautifully executed scroll work with spread win American eagle and shield surmounting riband with motto and six pointed stars above. at the base of the blade "PROSSER / to the / Royal Family / 9 / Charing Cross / London. The etching is truly of superb quality and it is all highlighted with hand engraving. Iron hilt of the classic regulation 1821 style, the sharkskin grip with triple wire wrap, overall bright clean and about mint. All edges of the guard highlighted with line engraving and the pommel exhibits a rudimentary capstan and is configured in steps. The iron scabbard also about perfect, bright and clean with just a couple of minor stains and two tiny dings near the tip. A beautiful sword again exemplifying the desire of the British military outfitters to take advantage of the American Civil War market and certainly the only example we've ever seen.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
