    Presentation Sword by Emerson & Silver Presented to Lieutenant William Steiner, Co. G, 14th Michigan Volunteer Infantry, June 28, 1863.
    An impressive non-regulation Staff & Field officers' with silver grip and brass wire wrap. An impressive eagle upon a Federal shield surrounded by a panoply of arms is prominent on the guard. The obverse side of the blade is etched with a panoply of arms and foliate scroll; the reverse features a "U.S." and complimentary scroll work. The metal scabbard features ornately decorated mounts and drag. The sword is inscribed on an oval escutcheon between the throat of the scabbard and the upper mount: "Presented to / Lieut. Wm. Steiner / by the Members of Co. G / 14th Mich. Vol. Inf. / June 28, 1865".

    Steiner's residence was listed as Detroit when he enlisted at the age of 20. He enlisted on October 16, 1861 and mustered into Company G or the 14th Michigan. As the war progressed he rose through the ranks, finally commissioned as a 1st lieutenant on July 5, 1865. He mustered out on July 18, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky.

    Condition: Very good. The blade generally remains bright; the metal scabbard has an overall dark patina.
