    Description

Late 18th Early 19th Century British Naval Boarding Axe. Very nice untouched example of this vicious looking naval weapon. Head with deep dark patina overall and just some scattered pitting, exhibiting some crudeness in the forging process, with the seam visible at the top of the blade clearly verifying that it was entirely hand forged. Head is 8 1/2" from blade edge to tip of spike, 4" long side straps with two rivets on each side affixing it to what appears to be the original haft. Blade deeply marked I (T). Sargent with large British Ordnance broad arrow mark. The 22 1/4" long oak haft swells considerably just below the head and then tapers to a 1 1/8" diameter at the base. Haft excellent with nice rich untouched patina.
Very nice example of this scarce and desirable British naval weapon.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
