    Description

Hand-Made Buffalo- Hide "tongue pail," One of the most extraordinary and rare artifacts of the era of buffalo hunting that we have encountered marvel of ingenuity and skill. The skinner who devised this learned the technology and the craft from his Plains Indian neighbors, the Pawnee or the Kiowa. The top consists of an iron ring 17 ½" in diameter covered by hide; the single piece of hide is then "stitched" or, rather, laced to make a pail 8 ½" deep. This object gives a remarkable feeling for time and place.
