Description

Nicely Marked, Fine Condition Thomas Leech, Memphis Novelty Works Enlisted Confederate Cavalry Saber. Plain 36 1/2' blade with unstopped fuller which extends to within 1/2" of the guard and 8" of the tip. Exceptionally fine condition with scattered dark smooth patina, the balance a light gray to bright and clean. Absolutely no rust, pitting or edge nicks. Retains the original leather washer. The classic form guard absolutely flat on top and bottom with the exception of a small raised panel underneath the leather washer. Deeply and crisply marked on the front of the quillon "Memphis / Novelty Works / Thos Leech & Co." The hilt is otherwise plain, displaying a small casting flaw on the outboard branch and retains 50% of the original gold wash. Leather grip wrapped with twisted brass wire perfect. Iron scabbard with brass ring mounts and huge carrying rings with no dents and generally smooth deep dark patina with the exception of a few tiny areas of pitting near the tip, minor. The throat is constructed by folding over the top lip of the scabbard while displaying an apparently non functional rivet on each flat. Superb example. Ex-Steve Hess Collection
