    Description

Nice Untouched US M1818 N. Starr Cavalry Saber. 32" blade with clipped point really excellent. Generally smooth and clean with just some minor staining and absolutely no rust, pitting or nicks. Deep crisp marks at the base of the blade "US / P / LS / NSTARR". Really as nice an example as we've seen in quite sometime. Hilt also about perfect with nice dark patina and just a few small areas of minor salt and peppering. The wooden grip retains only traces of the original leather but heavily worn from honest use with deep age patina. Blade retains the original leather washer, iron ferrule at base of grip. Scabbard retains traces of the original Japanned finish, the balance a deep dark untouched patina with some very light pitting and a few minor dents near the drag and a few small holes where the scabbard meets the drag. Original throat and screw, both ring mounts, one slightly askew, easily moved back into place. Very nice untouched example of this early regulation US issue cavalry saber.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
