Nice American Eaglehead Officer's Straight Sword C. 1825. Straight 32" blade with fuller running open to the tip, decorated with gilt highlighted engraved designs, on fire blue background, for half its length. Retains 80% of the original fire blue and gilt with the balance of the blade exhibiting some staining and luster with absolutely no rust, pitting or nicks. Knucklebow incorporates seven, rather than the customary five, balls and terminates with disc quillon. Nice eaglehead, one piece bone grip carved with vertical incised line decoration, with round faced 3/8" brass ferrule at the base. Grip with nice mellow patina, the hilt overall about perfect retaining traces of the original gilt. Very nice.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
