Most Unusual Civil War Non-Reg Staff Officer's Sword. The first example we've encountered. 32 1/2" blade etched for half its length. Considerable staining with a few small dark patches of light pitting and old surface rust but tucked wing eagle clearly evident as part of the etch on both sides. Retains the original leather washer and small brass "PROVED" disc inset on obverse ricasso. All steel mounts. The face of the huge cup guard is completely covered with engraving with small spread wing eagle on riband above a large American shield with die stamped stars. The balance of the cup covered with scroll and geometric motifs, all hand engraved. Generally clean and light gray with one small dark area of light pitting adjacent to the blade but not affecting the engraving. The interior of the cup with deep dark patina and scattered salt and peppering. 7/8" wide scroll like quillon. Stepped pommel with backstrap and 1/2" decorative ferrule at base. The wood grip retains only about 10% of the original sharkskin but all of the original copper spring like wire wrap. A most unusual and doubtless very rare Civil War sword.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
