Lot of Two Ames U.S. Model 1860 Enlisted Cavalry Sabers. Including: 1) Scarce 1859 dated Ames manufactured example with a 35" slightly curved blade. Obverse ricasso marked "U.S. / G.G.S. / 1859" and "Ames Mfg / Chicopee / Mass" on the reverse ricasso. About 50% of the original leather covering remains on the grip but all wire wrapping is present. Blade with a dark patina, a few nicks in the cutting edge and some occasional surface rust and pitting. Iron scabbard retains two leather mounting straps. Scabbard with a few dents near the drag. Good condition. 2) Second example with a 34 ½" slightly curved blade marked "U.S. / D.R. / 1863" on the obverse ricasso and "Ames Mfg / Chicopee / Mass" on the reverse ricasso. Grip complete with leather covering and wire wrapping. Blade with an overall smooth dark patina with a few nicks in the cutting edge. Iron scabbard lacking the throat fitting, otherwise a good example with nice wartime date.
