    Description

Large Fine Condition Sheffield Bowie Knife With Period Scabbard C. 1870 Knife 12 1/2" overall with 8" clipped point blade with 3" false edge. Blade overall about mint with just some hairline scratches along the cutting edge. Marked along the obverse top edge "NON-XLL" and maker's name on ricasso "JOSEPH / ALLEN & SON / SHEFFIELD / ENGLAND". Oval German silver cross guard perfect. Stag plaque grips affixed with three iron pins also about perfect. Scabbard with German silver throat and brass belt loop affixed to the back probably somewhat earlier than the knife. Gilt embossed decoration with "I*XL" in the center. Covered with waffle finish brown Moroccan leather, a bit flaked/damaged near the bottom, there is no tip. Very impressive knife.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
