    Description

Scarce Zachary Taylor Silver Mounted Sheffield Folding Knife, Circa 1850. 10" overall when opened, 4 1/2" single edged blade with 2 1/2" false edge. Blade generally smooth and gray with just some very minor salt and peppering. Marked on the ricasso "R. BUNTING / & SON / SHEFFIELD" . 1/2" silver bolster with incised line decoration. Bone plaque grips with nice mellow patina. The grip on the obverse missing a small chip at the top, and a crack with no loss below that, easily repaired. The pommel on both sides with bust of Zachary Taylor with the motto "ASK NO FAVORS AND SHUN / NO RESPONSIBILITIES / Z. TAYLOR". The obverse of the pommel with one dent else both sides excellent with light patina. Spring/locking mechanism etc. work perfectly. Nice example of this rare knife.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
