Large Confederate D-Guard Bowie with Original Sheath
Circa 1861-1865, with a 15-1/8" clip point blade showing several imperfections in the old nonhomogeneous steel. This large and impressive Confederate bowie knife has an iron D-guard, a brass ferrule and a handle of turned walnut. 20-3/4" overall. The dark brown leather sheath has shrunken with age; it is decorated with tooling and slotted for a belt or other means of suspension. An old brass tag with the number "4" on it is attached to the knife. All in well aged condition with appropriate patina.
Provenance: This knife was once in Fred Edmunds' Gettysburg Museum.
From the Ex Jack Royse Collection.
