DescriptionGroup Of Four Silver Cutlery Handle Civil War Bowie Knives / Dirks. The knives are as follows:The largest 11 1/2" overall with 6 1/2' clipped point blade with 4" false edge. Blade with very light gray patina, generally smooth and clean. No nicks, rust or pitting. Marked on the obverse ricasso "Manson / Sheffield". Oval German silver cross guard. The extremely elaborate silver grip is identical to two of the knives listed in another lot in this catalog and among the most elaborate we've seen, covered with intertwined scroll work and a protrusion of scroll work at the pommel. The grip is perfect with dark patina in recessed areas. The grip has become separated from the base of the cross guard by 1/16" but easily repaired. Three is no scabbard.; 9 1/2' long dirk with 5 1/2" spear point blade with median ridge. Blade generally smooth and gray with some darker areas of patina and a couple of tiny areas of salt and peppering No rust or edge nicks and unmarked. Oval German silver cross guard. very attractive slender silver grip decorated extensive scrollwork and floral motifs with clamshell like scroll work at the pommel. The bottom of the guard has been pushed slightly against the base of the guard with a very slight bend at that point but easily repaired. There is no scabbard.; 9" spearpoint dirk with 5" spearpoint blade with median ridge. Blade generally smooth and gray with some darker areas of patina and one tiny, really negligible spot of very light pitting at one edge near the middle. Marked on the obverse ricasso "Manson / Sheffield". Heavily scroll decorated silver grip about perfect. Retains the original excellent red Moroccan leather covered scabbard which is decorated with gilt embossing along the edges with scrollwork in the center. Original German silver throat and tip about perfect although missing the frog stud.; 9 1/2" dirk with slender 5" spear point blade with median ridge. Blade generally smooth and light gray with no rust pitting or nicks and nicely marked in a decorative panel on the obverse ricasso "G. Woodhead / Sheffield / Warranted. Silver cutlery handle excellent with nice patina and decorated with bands of scroll work and a beaded design around the entire outer edge. Oval German silver cross guard. The original front stitched leather scabbard is excellent with scallop edged German silver tip with line engraved decoration and line decorated German silver throat with scalloped edge 1/2" extension on the front. There is a thin band of embossed geometric decoration along both edges of the scabbard front and back. Retains the original 1 3/4" leather belt loop which is well worn but intact.
