DescriptionCivil War Period Cutlery Handle Etched Blade Sheffield Bowie Knife And Scabbard. 11 1/2" overall with 6 1/2" double edge spearpoint blade. Marked on the ricasso "JAMES WEST / LORD St. / SHEFFIELD". Grip elaborately decorated with embossed scroll work and perfect with nice untouched patina. Blade decorated with 5" etched panel on frosted background covering most of the obverse side of the blade with motto; AMERICA / LAND OF THE FREE / AND HOME OF THE BRAVE" Blade retains much of the mint luster but with scuffing on the lower one quarter on both sides. Could easily be removed. The original Moroccan leather scabbard with sunburst (with face) embossed in gilt in the center with one small damaged area on reverse while the obverse is fine. German silver throat and tip, missing the frog stud. Nice example of a patriotic etched blade knife and easily upgraded.
From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
