DescriptionBowie Knife with Shreve San Francisco marking.
Having a 5 7/8-inch clipped point polished-steel blade with ricasso marked: GEO W. SHREVE/SAN FRANCISCO. Reverse is stamped:[frog]/ENGLAND. Stag grip panels retained by 3 steel pins. Contained in period brown leather scabbard with belt slit. The famous Shreve company of San Francisco was run by George C. Shreve. There is no evidence of a George W. Shreve having been associated with that company. The mark on this knife is mis-leading.
Condition: Good. Blade showing age wear, sharpening and scattered fine pitting. Grips with heavy age wear. Scabbard also good and with moderate age wear and stains. Not a tight fit to the knife.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.View More Testimonials
