Description

A Grouping of Three very Early Skinning Tools. 1) Sheffield-style butcher and skinning knife, 9-7/8" clip-point blade (15-3/4" overall), ca. 1870, showing rust and pitting and general age wear. 2) Very unusual unmarked skinning and ripping knife, ca. 1880, with a "saw tooth" false edge, rattail tang, and turned hardwood handle. The 9-1/8" blade is 3" wide with some discoloration, pitting, and patches of rust. 3) "Ulu-style" or round-knife style cutting and chopping knife, hand-forged with a 6-3/4" sharpened blade 2 ½" deep, and a 4" tapered tang with peened end locking onto the hardwood handle. This scarce blade is illustrated on page 83 of Gilbert, Remiger, and Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Buffalo Hunters and Skinners, volume 1.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
