Iron Hilt Tiffany & Co. M1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber. Blade generally with smooth dark patina overall, no pitting or nicks and just a few very small scattered areas of old surface rust. Nicely marked "TIFFANY & CO / NEW YORK" on the obverse ricasso and "P.D.L." on the reverse. All iron hilt excellent with deep dark patina and just some scattered surface rust and a few small areas of pitting on the pommel. The grip has been rather poorly rewrapped with brown leather and what appears to be the original twisted wire. Scabbard very good with smooth dark patina, no rust or pitting and one dent on both sides midway between the middle mount and drag, and a small dent with tiny hole on the reverse just above the drag. Good representative example.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
