    Description

    Indo-Persian Khanjar/Jambiya Knife.

    Approximately 10-inch curved blade with raised center. Of great bird form. Fine gold inlay on ricasso area through bottom on handle. Peacock / Falcon design head with gold inlay decoration. Contained in original wood scabbard wrapped in a simple tooled leather design. Overall length is approximately 15-inches. Note: This item is lot number 3509 on the Invoice from International Studio Art Division, The Hearst Corp. of which a photocopy is included in the sale. According to consignor and paperwork provided, this item was obtained by Shirley Temple Black from the Hearst warehouse in 1963 to complement her decorating and collecting habits. In the form, the item states, "Steel-handled Dagger, India, XVIII Century, Handle in form of Bird's Head. Inlaid in Gold. Leather Scabbard.

    Condition. Good to very good for its age. Blade is a bit loose from handle. Most gold present with light losses from storage and handling. Dried scabbard with good form and light losses to wrapping near edges.
