    Hunting Knife by Schively, Philadelphia.
Circa 1830s-1840s. Rare hunting knife by Henry Schively of Philadelphia, or his sons George or Charles who worked both with their father and independently. 6-1/2" blade featuring a sharpened false edge ground only from the obverse side, 11" overall. Finely checkered horn slab handles attached with iron pins. Original leather sheath with nickel silver mounts. Blade with about 50% original polish, the surface of the leather sheath body largely flaked. Arguably the best of less than ten known examples of this style. Excellent.
Maker of a knife for Rezin Bowie and perhaps another for Davy Crockett, Henry Schively was one of the earliest, most important and most influential makers during the bowie knife era, and one of the most desired by collectors today.
