Black leather scabbard with gilded-brass mounts and drag. The mounts are drag have complimentary floral scroll on the obverse. Obverse upper mount engraved "Presented by / Co. H. 5th V.R. / to / Capt. Charles Knorr / of / Newark N.J. / July 23rd 1871". Captain Charles A. Knorr is listed in New Jersey as early as 1866 as belonging to Company H of the 5th New Jersey National Guard. He is also listed in an 1867 New Jersey Adjutant Generals annual report as belonging to the "5th Regiment (Veteran)". Not much is known about his Civil War record, only that he enlisted as a corporal (date unknown) and saw service in the 5th Light Artillery.

Condition: The sword excellent, the scabbard fair. The blade remains bright with only modest scabbard storage wear. Only traces of the gilt remain in the decorative panels. The hilt displays a warm, uniform patina. The scabbard is detached from the lower brass tip and bears evidence of an old repair between the mounts.
