French Staff Officers' Sword, Circa 1908. Reminiscent of the U.S. 1860 Staff and Field Officers' sword, which was itself a French design, this interesting sword has a 29 ½" elliptical blade dated 1908 and manufactured by Chatellerault. The blade is not etched or adorned. The gilded-brass hilt is ornately decorated and the obverse counter guard has three stars riveted to it. The grip is polished horn or tortoiseshell with brass wire wrapping. The sword is complete with leather scabbard, but it has been significantly reinforced with black electrical tape. The hilt is a bit loose otherwise it is a Visually attractive sword in very good condition.
