French Cavalry Officer's Saber C. 1840. 35" curved plain blade excellent with just some scattered stains. No nicks,, rust or pitting. Blade retains the original leather washer. Hilt with cast decoration on both sides where the branches join the guard, on the quillon, where the guard enters the pommel, and on the face of the pommel. Hilt overall about perfect with nice patina. Horn grip also perfect but devoid of wire wrap. Scabbard excellent, generally smooth and dark with just some scattered very light pitting. The back of the lower ring mount is split but in place. Balance of the scabbard with nice smooth brown patina. Nice sword as occasionally used by Civil War cavalry officers.
