Five-Ball Eagle Head Saber. Very fine U.S. eagle head infantry officer's saber, circa 1835. 28" curved blade retaining 80% of the original bright fire blue and gilt engraved decoration. Balance of the blade with staining, but no rust or pitting. Classic "5 ball" knucklebow with disc quillon. Rather fierce, closed mouth eagle head, reeded ivory grip perfect with nice patina and brass ferrule at base. Scabbard near perfect with just some light finish crazing, very sound. Throat with frog stud and ring, along with drag exhibiting line embossing. There is no indication the sword ever carried a middle mount. Sword overall retains traces of the original silver wash. An exceptionally nice example of the classic American "5 ball" eagle head saber.
