    Fine Museum Copy of a Chinese Late Spring or Early Autumn Period Bronze Sword together with Book on Art of War by Sun Zi with original Sword on Cover. Finely crafted 16 5/8-inch straight blade of bronze with spearpoint tip, sides with engraved lattice work pattern and appliquéd steel edges. Obverse inlaid with gold Chinese characters, reportedly the maker's name. Cast brass bolster inlaid with turquoise and translucent blue cabochons. Solid brass one-piece cylindrical grip with integral concave disc pommel with concentric rings. This fine museum copy is similar to an original example in the Hubei Provincial Museum, inscribed to Guo Jian, King of Yue. This original sword is reproduced on the cover of The Art of War: Sun Zi's Military Methods, Translated by Victor H. Mair, a copy of which accompanies the sword.The sword is also of the general type, though less decorated, of an original Chinese sword in the Palace Museum. This museum copy, exhibits the design and quality construction of an original sword. Original swords of this type are extremely rare and sell for over $20,000, if ever available. Condition: Excellent with light age wear and patina. Minor pitting present on bolster.
