    Fine Civil War Period "The Hunter's Companion" Sheffield Bowie Knife. 11 5/8" overall with 6 1/2" clipped point blade with 3" false edge. Maker marked at the on the obverse ricasso "JOHN B. HOBSON", also along the top edge "THE HUNTER'S COMPANION". Blade bright and clean with some salt and peppering along the cutting edge near the tip and one tiny patch of light pitting near the obverse ricasso. Large oval German silver cross guard with just a very slight bend. The cylindrical stag grip with flat German silver pommel cap and 1/2" decorative ferrule at base. The red leather covered scabbard with gilt embossed decoration about perfect. German silver throat and tip. The throat mounting a frog stud and just one tiny dent on the tip. Very nice knife.
