    Description

Fine American Naval Officer's Eaglehead Straight Sword C. 1830. 30" straight blade, excellent, retaining traces of the fire blue and much of the gilt on the engraved decoration. The balance a smooth dark patina with absolutely no rust, pitting, or nicks. The large lobe shaped guard utilizes the central theme of an eagle surmounting the flukes of a fouled anchor surrounded by stars with scroll work at the edges. Lion head quillon. Perfect with nice dark patina, The sword overall being completely untouched. Knucklebow with extensive cast decoration, eaglehead with nicely delineated feathers. Mother of pearl plaque grips perfect with ivy leaf decoration on the sheet brass backstrap and scroll decorated 1/2" sheet brass ferrule at the base. The small reverse counterguard decorated with hand engraved leaves. There is no scabbard. Scarce form and a desirable untouched example in fine condition.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
