Description
Exceptionally Fine Marked E. J. Johnston, Macon, Ga. Heavy Cavalry Officer's Saber With Potential Period ID. 33" wide curved blade with 1" ricasso, near mint, with just a few scattered areas of light patina. Really remarkable. The hilt is the classic form as pictured in Albaugh's Photo Supplement in Figs 20 F and G and is marked with a single dies stamp on the face of the disc quillon "Macon, Ga.". The sword also bears the number 83 on the underside of the guard adjacent to the blade an on the top of the pommel which is crudely decorated on the face with laurel leaves. The top of the guard exhibits the period neatly and deeply scratched initials "A. L. R." Guard characteristically thickens slightly where it enters the pommel, and has small pierced reverse counterguard. Polished wood grip about perfect showing the impression of the original twisted brass wire but the wire is missing. Hilt overall with dar untouched patina. Massive iron scabbard with heavy, crude brass ring mounts and iron rings. The throat, assuming it originally carried one, is missing, as is the drag. The scabbard is excellent exhibiting no dents, rust or pitting and retains 80% of what appears to be a red/brown painted finish. Attached to and wrapped around the scabbard is a period 6" long paper label with period ink script writing which we have been unable to decipher. A most desirable marked example of this rare and very desirable Confederate saber. Ex-Steve Hess Collection.Auction Info

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.View More Testimonials
As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
HA.com receives more traffic than any other auction house website. (Source: Similarweb.com)
