English Sea Service Enfield Bayonet With Hanger, Belt and Oval "US" Waist Belt Plate.
Per Janzen this bayonet has also been attributed to the Colt revolving rifle. Hardin indicates it was for use with the Enfield pattern Short Sea Service rifle manufactured in Liege, Belgium. Apparently many were used by the Confederacy. The straight blade measures just at 24-inches. This example has an "S & K" maker's stamp on the obverse ricasso, indicating German manufacture by Schnitzler & Kirschbaum. The bayonet has a steel guard and brass grip. It is complete with the leather scabbard which has a brass throat, tip and shield-shaped stud for mounting to the frog. The bayonet comes on a 1 ¾-inch wide leather belt which has a brown leather cap box. The cap box has no markings and is missing the wool interior. A nice 1839 pattern oval "US" waist belt plate completes the group.

Condition: Very good. The blade of the bayonet has a smooth gray patina with some minor nicks in the cutting edge; there is a small dent in the throat of the scabbard; the leather belt and hanger are a bit dry and flaky; the cap box is in very good condition.
