    Description

Early 19th Century Era Royal Navy Officers' Sword. From the era when Britannia truly ruled the wave, this well-made example features a 28" slightly curved blade etched with floral decoration, fouled anchor, and early crown. The reverse ricasso is etched "Warranted". The gilded-brass hilt has a lion's head pommel and solid half-basket style guard emblazoned with a crown and anchor. The hilt has a small folding counter guard. This sword exhibits small, better executed engraving on the back strap and top of the quillon than later examples. The leather scabbard has gilded-brass mounts. The top mount is marked "Dudley / Grand Parade / Portsmouth". The blade is uniformly dark with scattered areas of pitting. The hilt retains most of it's lovely luster. The leather portions of the scabbard are crazed and scuffed. Sold with a partial sword knot. An excellent early sword exhibiting superior craftsmanship.
