    Coffin Hilt Bowie by Parker Cutlery Co.
    10-inch clipped point blade, the left side with etched legend reading: [flying eagle]/ LAND OF FREEDOM/THE PATRIOTS/SELF DEFENDER/PROTECTED BY HER BRAVE VOLUNTEERS. Ovoid German silver crossguard. One horn grip panel and one matching wood grip panel are retained by 2 brass pins. German silver coffin hilt adorned with half-horse, half-alligator. This style of Bowie knife was common in the American market c1865-1875. This example was manufactured c1980 in commemoration of that style. Overall length: 14 3/4-inches.

    Condition: Very good to fine. Blade appears to have original edge but with micro-nicks. Steel is bright with patches of fine to moderate pitting throughout. Signs of having been cleaned. Ricasso likely ground. Grips good showing repair, age wear and patina. Pommel fine with light age wear.
