    C. 1830 US Artillery Officer's Straight Sword In Superb Condition. The sword is virtually identical to FIG 101 in Peterson and is overall near mint. The 31 1/2" straight blade is white etched for 2/3 its length with just some minor scattered staining, else perfect. Absolutely no rust, pitting or nicks, and retaining most of the original luster. Obverse with scrollwork, oak leaf and acorn vines, arms panoply with liberty cap and rays. Reverse with similar motifs but tucked wing eagle with hand engraved motto on riband in the center. Very pretty blade. The hilt is identical to FIG 101 with checkered plaque ivory grips and spread wing eagle on wreath on counterguard. Hilt overall about mint. The unengraved brass scabbard has a scroll decorated frog stud and two carrying rings, really excellent with just a few minor shallow dents and line decoration on the tip. The sword appears to have been lightly hand cleaned many years ago and the brass now has an old thin coat of lacquer, easily removed. A really exceptional example of this sword that is often referred to as representing the regulations of 1821.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
