    Buffalo Skinner's Kit with Tools. A superb and representative that span the most productive two decades from the early 1870s through the early 1890s. The conical leather pouch, 7 ¼" deep and 2 ¼" across, is slotted with leather dividers for four knives and a steel. The 36" belt has steer head buckles. The tools are: a. Unmarked Sheffield butcher knife, probably an early I Wilson, 10" in length with 5 ¾" blade. b. Matching skinning knife, again probably an unmarked early I Wilson. c. Unmarked hand-forged skinning knife, half tang, 9 ½" long; d. Fine 1890s Bowie-style hunting knife marked "[arrow] F. Dick/Germany." e. And finally an unusual 15 ¾" sharpening rod with a 12" elliptical steel, cast brass handle and steer head motif. This set is featured on page 83 of Gilbert, Remiger, and Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Buffalo Hunters and Skinners, volume 1.
