Brazilian Light Minié Rifle Saber Bayonet & Scabbard. Very fine, untouched. These bayonets are identified in many references and by many authorities as actually being for the Colt revolving rifle, which they do, in fact, fit. The 23.875" straight blade about mint. Marked S & K on the reverse ricasso and with a small anchor with letters DC on the obverse. Ribbed brass grip, slotted on the back, with iron release button and spring. Iron cross guard which also bears the small anchor DC mark. The guard and grip are both numbered 153 and both with nice patina. Original scabbard very sound, with no weak spots or open stitching, just some light scattered finish crazing. Correct brass throat and tip with a few minor dents and deep dark patina, retaining the original shield shaped frog stud. Rarely encountered in this fine condition with the complete original scabbard.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
