Birdhead Pommel US Militia Artillery Saber C. 1830. 30" curved blade with engraved decoration of floral/scrollwork retaining just traces of the original gilt highlighting. Blade generally smooth and gray with no nicks, rust or pitting. All brass hilt with plain round faced reverse P guard and disc quillon. Birdhead pommel with full backstrap. Very nicely and deeply carved ivory grip with exceptionally nice mellow patina, just one age hairline but perfectly sound. 3/8" brass ferrule at base. Hilt about perfect retaining 20% of the original gilt. Retains the upper 3/4 of the leather scabbard along with the middle mount with carrying ring, mount decorated with incised lines with dark patina. Scabbard missing the lower 6" and a 1" X 1/2" chip at the top. Good example of this form.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
