Beautiful Bavarian Court Degen. A beautifully designed sword carried by Bavarian state, government and diplomatic officials. The narrow, double-edged blade measures 29½" in length and has modest etching running part way on each side of the blade. The grips are simulated mother of pearl panels with a gilded Bavarian crown a sunburst mounted on the obverse grip. The "D" guard, lion's head pommel and clamshell guard are finely decorated. The reverse of the guard is marked "Stroblberger München" and the mark appears again the reverse ricasso. The leather scabbard has a gilded throat and tip. The sword is in excellent condition with some minor spotting to the blade and light wear to the leather scabbard.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
