Absolutely Unique Ames 1865 Cavalry (?) Saber With Original Knot. Hilted as a standard M1860 light cavalry saber. Hilt with deep dark untouched patina. The leather covered wire wrapped grip with some worn spots but excellent with tight wire. The sword retains the original 7/8" wide wrist strap with adjusting loop and knot. Generally excellent and very sound with just some minor flaking and missing the ends of a couple of tassels. The knot is marked "MADE BY / J. I. PITTMAN" on the strap. The unique feature is the absolutely straight 35" blade. Formatted like a M1860 saber but straight as an arrow. Marked on the obverse ricasso "U. S. / J. C. W. / 1865 " and on the reverse with Ames scroll logo. The blade overall excellent with just some scattered very light pitting and staining with some very old dark areas of surface rust. No nicks, but the blade displays a touch of waviness along the edge. Most unusual and unique in our experience.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
