About Mint Civil War US M1850 Staff & Field Officer's Sword By C. Roby & Co. 32" blade with unusually strong curve, etched for 2/3 its length. Just some small scattered stains else perfect. Unique etch with the obverse displaying floral and leaf motifs, arms/flag panoply, and great spread wing eagle with shield and stars on breast and rays and stars above. The reverse displays vine, berry and floral motifs, along with arms/flag panoply including American shield, and old English US. Maker's logo etched at the base of the blade "C. Roby & Co./W. Chelmsford./Mass." Blade retains the original leather washer. Regulation style hilt perfect with nice mellow patina, perfect sharkskin grip and triple brass wire wrap. The scabbard retains much of the original finish mixing with smooth brown patina. Absolutely no dents, nicks, rust or pitting. Brass ring mounts and lower mount/drag also about mint with deeply cast laurel leaves on the ring mounts. Heavy brass throat held in place by a single screw on the back of the scabbard. All brass retains vestiges of the original gilt. The top ring mount is marked horizontally on the reverse "C. Roby & Co./W. Chelmsford, Mass.". An absolutely exquisite Civil War M1850 Staff & Field officer's sword by a very desirable maker.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
