"Snell" Pattern Brass-Handled Saber Bayonet for the Commensurate Alteration of the US M1841 Mississippi Rifle. 22 1/2" Blade, Smooth and Dark. No nicks and just one tiny patch of pitting near the hilt, very minor, completely untouched. Rounded ribbed brass hilt with iron key for locking which turns freely. Requisite 5/16" projection on the back of the blade near the hilt. No adaptor ring, easily replaced, or scabbard. It appears that the Confederates captured a number of these bayonets with the appropriately altered rifles, as the adaptor ring was produced in quantity by Boyle, Gamble and McFee of Richmond, Virginia. Very nice untouched example of this very scarce U.S. saber bayonet that likely saw Confederate use.
