    4-Digit 7th Cavalry Custer U.S. Colt Single Action Army Revolver.
    Serial no. 4895 [frame, triggerguard, cylinder and butt], .45 caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front blade sight and frame notch rear sight. Blued finish. Top of barrel marked: - COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A. -. Two-line, two-date patent and U.S. stamped to left side of frame. Ainsworth "A" inspector mark to base of barrel, cylinder, triggerguard, backstrap and base of grip. "P" stamped to base of barrel and cylinder. Smooth walnut one-piece grip. Manufactured in 1874. The serial number falls in the range of Custer's 7th Cavalry troops, initial issues of revolvers during July of 1874. Accompanied by John A. Kopec letter dated July 20, 2001. Also included, two detailed letters provided by James O. Aplan, dated June 3, 2001, and Dr. Kenneth Leonard, dated May 15, 2001.

    Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a smooth grey patina with scattered signs of age, handling wear and patches of pitting. Faint tracking line to cylinder. Scuffs and dings present to wood. Action good. Lightly pitted bore.
